no pattern, no plan
For the past couple of weeks I’ve been working on a wall-hanging piece. I started making it during the November 13 Patchwork show that I mentioned in this post.
It was supposed to be a hat. But as it started to come together, it just didn’t seem to want to be a hat. So it’s flat. It’s about 13″ x 11″ currently, and I’m not sure how large it will be when it’s finished.
My crocheting is a good metaphor for my life – I just make it up as I go along. I also don’t have any patience for crochet patterns (which is why I don’t use them) or knitting patterns (which is why I don’t knit anymore), or food recipes for that matter (I just throw stuff together and hope it works).
Speaking of winging it: Thanksgiving was totally put together on the fly at the grocery store yesterday. I picked up the turkey I’d ordered, then went to Trader Joe’s for pre-sliced mushrooms and the like for the savory pie I’m making. It would have been nice to buy my Thanksgiving produce at the farmers’ market this year, but we were out of town this past weekend. There’s always next year to plan something spectacular, right? Or (as I know I will) to just freeform my way through it. Again.
I’m off now to tend to the bird, assemble the savory pie (more on that later) and get the house ready for our guests! Have a Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
